Smile Annual Conference 2017
We are exploring the impact of misunderstanding, miscommunication and misperception and how a situation can rapidly move from arguments and confrontation and escalate to hatred and violence. From neighbour disputes to hate incidents, prejudice, stubbornness, lack of interest and even personal expectations or preferences can stand in the way of our need to understand, to empathise and listen to those around us.
Bringing together leading international experts and experienced front-line practitioners we explore a number of key themes:
- ‘I wish I’d known.’ Exploring misunderstanding through communication and perception.
- Evidenced research on Hate Crime and its source of unclear understanding, communication and perception.
- A drama performance around the theme.
- Hate Incidents stemming from interactions and ignorance.
